This guitar started life 25 years ago
with a one-piece maple neck and after several refrets the fretboard was downright
ugly and almost unplayable. The owner wanted to save the neck because the
airbrushing on the tuning head matched the guitar body.
So, the original fretboard was machined
off, and a new Pau Fero fretboard was installed with a layer of carbon fiber
sandwiched between the new fretboard and the neck. Mother of Pearl dots were
inlayed, and the new fretboard was given a 12 inch radius then fretted with
jumbo frets. A new Tusq nut was installed, then the guitar was reassembled
and the action and intonation was set.
The owner, recording artist Billy Cole
Reed, says it plays great!
