Johnston City IL - Skateboard Project

If Your Town Does Not Have A Skateboard Park...

Then Your Town IS a Skateboard Park

Several caring citizens in our town have founded a grassroots effort to get a public skateboard park built in Johnston City. Young persons in this town have no place to skateboard. Because of this, many of them are skateboarding on streets, sidewalks, and public properties within our town. Where else can they go to skateboard?

We feel that a free public skateboard park would be beneficial to everyone. It would provide a much needed recreational outlet for teenagers and even a few adults, and add liveliness and vitality and to our town. Please help us with the goal of raising donations to see a skateboard park become a reality in this town. Please help us show our young people that we care about them.

We are now currently looking for kids or adults who want to be involved in raising money for the skatepark. We also need people who can help with organizing fundraisers for this project. There has been one meeting before the city council, and there will be two more meetings, one the first Monday in July and another the first Monday in August. We hear that many are interested in this idea, but we need people to show up at the meetings in order to show that there is support for the project.

We need to raise $150,000.00 depending on whether we will have to buy concrete or not. We are considering one spot in town which already has a concrete pad.

UPDATE NOTICE - Meetings are now at the Fire Station Auxiliary Building on the first Monday of each month at 6pm. This will allow kids to attend that do not have transportation out to Lake Arrowhead.

Please attend and try to help with plans for fundraising! ATTENDANCE IS A MUST IN ORDER TO ESTABLISH INTEREST!

Right after the first of the year you will see contribution cans on the counters of many businesses in JC. Please donate your change for a "CHANGE" in JC.

This money will be used to help support our upcoming "EXTREME SPORTS PARK" it will be located on the old abandoned tennis court. We hope updating to a more popular sport that kids in 2009 relate to will be something kids in JC and surrounding kids will use. Each year the tennis courts are neglected and become a bed of tall weeds, so we hope this project will keep that area from becoming a eye sore downtown and give kids something to do.

We will continue our efforts until September. If there is no more show of interest during the summer months, the project will be abandoned and the money collected will be donated for another civic project for kids. Some time between May 15 and Sept 15 we are supposed to have a exposition from American Ramp Company that will come and hold contests, with music, giveaways and prizes. Kids or adults, or anyone who is interested in participating will be asked to wear a helmet, bring one or they will supply one. Spectators are welcome, and we believe they will be excited to see the talents of our local kids and what an extreme park could mean to Johnston City.

If you would like to participate please come to the meetings! This is not a school project, so we cannot advertise our meetings at the schools so we depend on your word to get the news out about the project and the meetings.

Please Help!
